Reading: John 5:2-9
A man had been disabled for 38 years. He was waiting by the pool of Bethesda for the angel to stir the water. For then, the first person to get into the pool would be healed from their sickness. We don’t know how long he had been waiting. Weeks? Months?
But the system was rigged, at least for him. In order to get into the pool he needed to outrun other people. He couldn’t even walk. The very means to his solution was exactly his problem. It’s an unfair game. Feels familiar?
But then Jesus came. The King of angels came to meet him and healed him. Jesus broke the repeated cycles of waiting and failing and succumbing to disappointment. Only He can do it. And He can do it for you too.
