“…no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. And we have received God’s Spirit, so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.”

1 Corinthians 2:11-12

With all that has been going on since last year, many of us would try to make sense of life. Reading the news multiple times a day and hearing bad news from those around us often bring us down. Even worse, the good news of Christ seems to be overshadowed by the bad news of the world.

As humans, we rely on what our eyes see, what our ears hear, and what our minds can conceive to make sense of everything around us. Paul made it clear that the good things God has given to his people is not to be understood that way. Instead, we need the revelation from God’s Spirit to understand the beauty and hope of the gospel.

We should humbly ask God to teach us his truth without bringing our own understanding when we approach the Word. As we pray ‘Holy Spirit, help me understand!’, may we find confidence and joy in our God who reigns forever.
